Adverbial Constructions of three Mongolic Languages Khalkha, Buryat, and Kalmyk

Designed by Orgil Bor

This research project deals with complex constructions with adverbial clauses, one of the three major subsystems of clause-combining syntax. Adverbial clauses code such relevant relations between events as temporal, causal, purposive, conditional, concessive, modal, and others.

The goal of the project is to provide descriptive resources for and comparative linguistic analysis of three related Mongolic languages, namely Buryat, Kalmyk and Khalkha, on the basis of our self-collected corpora and existing online corpora of three languages.

The website itself serves as an information resource on the subject, combined with database interfaces, interactive tools, and links to major resources on the Mongolic languages and culture, thus forming a comprehensive gateway to this field of interest.

The project “Construction with adverbial clauses in Mongolic languages (Khalkha, Buryat, Kalmyk)” (Az.10.14.2.082), as well as the previous one “Digitale Konstruktikon dreier mongolischer Sprachen” about temporal constructions (Az.10.13.2.082), was made possible through the generous financial support of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. We express our sincere gratitude to the Foundation for the opportunity to complete our research study of the biggest and most complex part of the syntax of Mongolic languages.
